Imagine: Anthem of the New Age

The Bible prophesies an age of apostasy, blasphemy, unbelief, rebellion, and scoffing skepticism preceding the Day of the Lord, and we are observing that age nearing full bloom. See Psalm 2; 2 Timothy 3; 2 Peter 3. While rejecting the God of the Bible, mankind will strive to create a new Babel that will create religious harmony, produce communalism, and bring in world peace and prosperity. The Beatles frontman John Lennon wrote an anthem for this global pipe dream in his extremely popular song “Imagine” (1971). Powered by a haunting tune, the lyrics proclaim, “Imagine there’s no heaven, it’s easy if you try/ No hell below us, above only sky/ Imagine all the people living for today. Imagine there’s no countries; it isn’t hard to do/ Nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too/ Imagine all the people living in peace. Imagine no possessions; I wonder if you can/ No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man/ Imagine all the people sharing all the world./ You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one/ And some day I hope you’ll join us/ And the world will be as one.” This is precisely the world that New Agers, Marxists, Leftists, and Humanistic dreamers of all stripes are attempting to create. But man cannot achieve a New Age of peace, because he is a sinner who cannot get along with his own closest neighbors. When Lennon was dreaming of world harmony, his own son said, “How can you talk about peace and love and have a family in bits and pieces–no communication, adultery, divorce?” (Bill O’Reilly, Killing the Legends). As long as man is at war with God, he will be at war with man. John Lennon was murdered in December 1980 at age 40.
