“Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has signed a pair of bills she says will protect children and promote common sense throughout the state by banning transgender treatments for minors and requiring restrooms and locker rooms to be divided by biological sex. ‘There are very real challenges facing our young people, especially with today’s societal pressures and modern culture,’ Ivey said in a statement. ‘I believe very strongly that if the Good Lord made you a boy, you are a boy, and if he made you a girl, you are a girl.’ One bill, SB184, makes it a crime for doctors to prescribe puberty blockers and hormones to children and to perform sex-change surgeries. Among the surgeries prohibited on minors are castrations, vasectomies and hysterectomies. ‘We should protect our children from these radical, life-altering drugs and surgeries when they are at such a vulnerable stage in life,’ Ivey said. A second bill, HB322, requires public schools to divide restrooms, locker rooms, changing rooms and shower rooms by biological sex.”
