Many years ago an aged preacher did me a great favor by suggesting that I read the biographies of great spiritual giants. For nearly a quarter of a century I have followed his admonition. This interest later led me to an exciting hobby, that of collecting important dates in the lives of great men. For nearly fifteen years now I have been collecting such dates as I have been reading biographies. At first it was only a hobby for personal gratification, enjoyment, and pleasure. Later I started using the dates, anecdotes, etc. as a feature of a daily radio broadcast.

Now this interest and hobby has evolved into this edition. I sincerely trust this collection will enrich the life of every reader.

No effort has been made to document this material. Some of the stories, events, and anecdotes came from sermons by other men. Some were gathered by personal conversations. Others were gleaned from newspaper articles, almanacs, encyclopedias, and many other sources. Many authors disagree as to the date of birth, date of death, etc. of great men. Hence, I ask the leniency and understanding of the reader and at the same time pray that you will be blessed daily as you are reminded of important dates in history.

Of course, the Bible dates cannot be exactly accurate. I have assumed that when the Bible speaks of the first month of the year, it speaks of our April, second month, our May, etc. When we speak of the seventh month and tenth day, we take it as being October 10, realizing that no one could know for sure the accuracy of such a statement.

Hence, I present to the reader not an accurate almanac but a simple collection of events and stories that I trust will enrich "TODAY."
